Abstract

The quality of the teaching and learning process is one of the factors that determine success in achieving educational goals. Many of the students have not achieved mastery in learning. The model used by the teacher at that time in teaching and learning activities was still limited to conventional learning, and there was a lack of variation in learning. The alternative is to apply a problem solving learning model. The problem in this study is whether the experimental class learning outcomes are higher than those without problem solving treatment? This study aims to determine the increase in student learning outcomes of class VIII SMP Negeri 3 Pollung. In this study, the population is class VIII students. To determine the sample, a random sample technique was used by lottery. Where, the result is that the experimental class is class VIII. The independent variables are problem solving models and conventional models, while the dependent variable is learning outcomes. Methods of data collection in the form of test and observation methods. Hypothesis testing using independent sample t-test. Based on the research results, it is known that the average pre-test result for the experimental class is 63.75 and the control class is 62.93. This shows that the two classes taken are from the same point before the study, which is below the standard value of the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) which is 75. From the post test results, it is known that the average value of the experimental class is 82.97 and the control class is 77.41. . Where from the calculation obtained tcount of 3.926 and ttable is 2.039 so that it can be seen that the table is calculated. Shows that using the problem solving model is higher than the conventional model.The conclusion of this study is that learning that applies problem solving models is proven to increase learning outcomes by 19.22. The advice given is that learning using a problem solving type of cooperative learning model can be used as an alternative to economics lessons and it is necessary to study the steps in solving the problem and understand it by the teacher so that it can be carried out properly and optimally
